'autumn leaves' is a movement journey on the transition between summer & winter.
We'll move with the spirit of autumn, from harvest to windfall, preparing for winter, letting go of the summer.
Each autumn, our deciduous trees take on new beauty as the leaves change colour and display their beauty. Yet even as they do, this is a process of dying. The trees are preparing to let go of their leaves, to give them away in preparation for winter.
Letting go of the leaves is an active process and a measure of how alive the tree really is. Take a look around: those trees that are near death themselves do not let go of their leaves - they are no longer able to do so.
It's a time of year when many different traditions and cultures hold festivals and ceremonies marking the place of death in the cycle of the year. From Hallow'een, to the Mexican Day of the Dead, to Remembrance Sunday. This is a time to mark our losses and let go as far as we are able, whether that be loved ones and friends we have lost, or simply parts of ourselves or habits that no longer serve us.
What do we
need to honour and release?
What is to be mourned at this time?
What is to be celebrated?
What is most alive in us, and what needs to die?
We'll taste the sweet sorrow of our sadness, the joy of giving away, and the vitality of the moving, breathing body in the dance of letting go.
As our guide, we'll take the simple beauty of the autumn leaves.
